הבחור הזה חילץ והציל 1000 כלבים מפסטיבל בשר הכלבים ביולין

השבוע נפתח פסטיבל בשר הכלבים ביולין שימשך 10 ימים. על מנת לצמצם את כמות הכלבים שנשחטים שם בברוטליות, פעילים למען בעלי חיים עובדים ללא הפסקה כדי לסגור את הדוכנים ואת בתי המטבחיים שרוצחים כ 10,000 כלבים באירוע השנתי. למרות הפגנות של פעילים בכל רחבי סין, הפסטיבל נפתח ב 21 ליוני (היפוך הקיץ) מכיוון שהם מאמינים שאכילת בשר של כלב מאפשרת לגוף להתמודד טוב יותר עם החום.

מארק צ'ינג, פעיל אמריקני והבעלים של חברת מזון אורגני לחיות מחמד, נסע ליולין כדי לחלץ כלבים שהוחזקו במתקן לא רחוק מהאירוע.

This is live. This is now: The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation, and The Tree of Life – we just rescued over 1000 dogs from Yulin.

A thousand breaths that would die here in the dark. A thousand lives that would bleed like blood left there upon ground.

These dogs, they are brothers. They are sisters. They are fathers and mothers. They are children. They deserve a chance.

All life deserves chance.

צ'ינג ושותפתו ואלרי לאניאלו פרסמו מספר סרטונים המתעדים את ההתעללות הכלבים.

People dreamed about this. People signed petitions and protested. People wrote their congressman and government. People filled the streets and stood in unison.

Well that dream, it is becoming reality. We have shut down six slaughterhouses, have five pending, and are on our way to visit a dozen more.

To those that thought it was impossible – it is becoming possible. For people who cried and screamed into the night, hope remains.

The reality of shutting down a festival where 10,000 dogs die, is that you have thousands of lives that need rescue.

We cannot do this alone. I have till tomorrow to save the lives that need saving. The world wanted the festival to end, and we are here trying to end it.

We need local rescues to step in. I can take 100 dogs, maybe 200. But that is all. Literally we have the smallest foundation on Earth. It is just me and my director Valarie Ianniello. There are groups that are a hundred times greater then we. There are hundreds of organizations that petitioned and stood out in protest.

This is the time. Do not desert the cause you asked the world to defend. Do not leave us here by ourselves. Do not abandon the mission.

Yulin Update: . This is eve before the killing. The smell of death – right there bleeding through the floor. . Fact: the Yulin Dog Meat Festival is happening. All reports about it ending, from the ground we see nothing. . This year, there seems to be some government pressure. A small step forward. But still, a step not large enough. . We are being followed by over 15 undercover agents. Their main goal, to make sure we do not reach the slaughterhouses. They are worried that we will expose the slaughterhouse conditions, and the treatment of the dogs. . The Yulin police, they are the reason why we are having a difficult time working to shut the festival down. Everyone we are coming into contact with, they are threatening. The three slaughterhouse deals I went to close down just now, the situation became tense and violent. . I almost got into an altercation with police. And there was a heated exchange between myself and the people running the slaughterhouse. Presently we are in the process of trying to shake the three cars, and four motorbikes tailing us. . צ'ינג כתב בעמוד הפייסבוק שלו שהוא הוכה, עוכב ונחקר על ידי הרשויות הסיניות בעקבות הנסיעה שלו ליולין. למרות שפסטיבל בשר הכלבים לא מוכר באופן רשמי על ידי הממשלה, צ'ינג אומר שהמשטרה המקומית מנסה לסכל כל פעולה של פעילים ומתנדבים.

אבל עושה רושם שהפעולות של הפעילים השונים עוזרות. לפי וונדי היגינס מארגון צער בעלי חיים העולמי, הפעילים בפסטיבל מדווחים שהשנה יש פחות הרג ואכילת כלבים מאשר שנים קודמות.
